FamJams: Homemade Pajamas for Long-Distance Snuggles

Handmade Gift Idea: Matching McCalls's Pajamas

As I’ve mentioned before, it is my personal belief that homemade gifts are the very best gifts. I also believe that, of those, soft and snuggly gifts are as good as it gets. Enter these McCall’s #5992 pajama sets, matching pairs for my mom and stepdad. Cue “awws.”

These guys are made from my favorite cold-weather pajama fabric: Snuggle Flannel from Joann. It is so sturdy and washes up super soft, plus I’m in love with all the available prints. So much that I made my own darn pair—I mean, technically I think I deserve two pairs, seeing as I made a set of two as a gift.

Let’s talk about this pattern. It features several different options: a short sleeve top, a knit sweatshirt-like top, a long nightshirt… and a pet sweatshirt with a little hood. I may or may not have made this pattern when I bought it a couple of years ago to make the hubs a pair of PJs, which he has since worn until they’re nearly threadbare. Sadly, our cat was not as fond of the pet sweatshirt—it was a little snug for my chunky girl.

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how I can add value and further personalize my handmade garments. I like the idea of having some labels printed to sew into my me-mades. Until I can do some research on some good shops for custom tags (I’d love to see any suggestions you may have in the comments), I got my hands on these blank charms and used a set of metal stamps I had to include the recipients’ initials. I thought it was a nice touch.
