As I’ve mentioned before, it is my personal belief that homemade gifts are the very best gifts. I also believe that, of those, soft and snuggly gifts are as good as it gets. Enter these McCall’s 5992 pajama sets, matching pairs for my mom and stepdad. Cue “awws.”
These guys are made from my favorite cold-weather pajama fabric: Snuggle Flannel from Joann. It is so sturdy and washes up super soft, plus I’m in love with all the available prints. So much that I made my own darn pair—I mean, technically I think I deserve two pairs, seeing as I made a set of two as a gift.
Let’s talk about this pattern. It features several different options: a short sleeve top, a knit sweatshirt-like top, a long nightshirt… and a pet sweatshirt with a little hood. I may or may not have made this pattern when I bought it a couple of years ago to make the hubs a pair of PJs, which he has since worn until they’re nearly threadbare. Sadly, our cat was not as fond of the pet sweatshirt—it was a little snug for my chunky girl.
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how I can add value and further personalize my handmade garments. I like the idea of having some labels printed to sew into my me-mades. Until I can do some research on some good shops for custom tags (I’d love to see any suggestions you may have in the comments), I got my hands on these blank charms and used a set of metal stamps I had to include the recipients’ initials. I thought it was a nice touch.
